Recently I saw a cool license plate… yeah, Florida is the place where every single cause, pro sports franchise, illness, endangered specie, and powder-puff football league has its own vanity plate.  This one was actually one of the good plates - both attractive and meaningful without causing controversy which isn’t good in this age of road rage.

So after some investigation I found out that this license plate shown to the right is actually the official license plate of FAR - the Florida Association of Realtors.

According to FAR, this license plate is a charitable way to raise money that will be used exclusively for housing programs.  Florida Association of Realtor’s goal is to provide housing assistance to teachers, nurses and others unable to find an affordable home.

Backed by Realtors and State Senators Dave Aronberg (D-Greenacres) and Chris Smith (D-Fort Lauderdale), then Governor Bush (R) signed the bill that created this plate in July of 2006… just as the market was beginning to crumble.

So leave it to a blogger to point a finger at irony!!

The plate costs an additional $27 + a $2 convenience fee…but according to the revenue report from the Florida Department of Highway Safety there was 6.78 times more money set aside to "Support Soccer" than benefit Affordable Home Ownership!

Sure, the program started at the end of the boom…. but is it just me or would it make sense that those of us still out there trying to sell houses should get this license plate to support the state maybe helping us qualify another buyer or two??

From July 2006 - June 2007, Support Homeownership for All had a whopping $18,825 in revenue from this plate!

I am due a new plate in October… I guess I know what I’m upgrading…
